Why Paddle Board
As a recreational activity, paddle boarding offers some tremendous health and fitness benefits ranging from a full body workout engaging many of the core muscles albeit in a low impact way through to improved balance, improvements in endurance and stamina, injury rehabilitation, weight loss as well as improving our cardiovascular health. Its an exciting way to unwind and decompress whilst at the same time engaging with nature. As one of the fastest growing water sports globally, if you have access to water then its definitely worth giving it a go.
Based in Irvine California and established in 2015 by Ale and Nicolas Szczedrin, NIXY are quickly establishing themselves as industry leaders for mid-high end iSUPs. With a passion for travel, it was their desire to bring a series of boards to the market that met the highest of design standards whilst still remaining portable, lightweight and equally important – affordable. Continually looking for ways to improve upon the design process, NIXY appear to be well positioned to take advantage of an exciting and growing inflatable market.

Construction – throughout their entire range of boards, NIXY utilise their proprietary dual layer Advanced Fusion laminated woven drop-stitch technology when building all of their inflatable boards. Drop-stitch is a proven method of intertwining thousands of polyester threads together to form an inflatables inner core. This is what enables the board to maintain its shape and form once fully inflated under high pressure. It has been extensively used for many years in the marine and aviation sectors (floating docks, platforms etc.).
Enveloping the core are two layers of military-grade laminated PVC material which form a highly durable outer skin capable of withstanding impacts from floating debris, other watercraft, underwater rocks or reefs and obstacles or if accidentally dropped.
Fusing as opposed to gluing the two layers of laminate together actually creates greater strength as well as saving weight when compared to gluing the layers together which is a process that many other manufactures adopt. This also helps reduce the risk of surface wrinkles that can become apparent over time. The Venice is also wrapped with carbon side rails which creates greater stiffness and rigidity.
External Board Features
As would be expected with all quality iSUP, the Venice comes complete with all of the modern day enhancements and board features aimed as maximising usage and the overall paddling experience.
The graphic above depicts these features but the more notable standouts for us include:
✔️ Grab Handles – making for easy carrying and transportation particularly for smaller paddlers given the boards light-weight.
✔️ Traction Deck Pad – the near on full length grooved EVA foam traction padding provides a ton of surface area coverage which is ideal for paddling stability and grip or when stationary for fitness and yoga.
✔️ Action Mounts – brilliant for the inclusion of mounting points for the GoPro camera, fishing rod holders or other accessories.
✔️ D-rings – you’ll struggle to use half of them but the ability to accessorise the board is near on limitless.
✔️ Bungee Systems – unlike many other SUP manufacturers, NIXY have put the larger bungee netting to the rear of the board and the smaller system at the front. While the netting is removable, the idea of having plenty of storage closer to your feet makes for quick and easy access although it may get in the way when you step back to perform turns and manoeuvres. Similarly, the forward netting is very small so the storage capacity will be quite limited.
✔️ Side Paddle Holder – helps secure and tuck the paddle away when not in use.
✔️ Tool-less Tri-Fins – enables multiple configurations to enhance paddling performance or personal preference depending on conditions and what you are looking for in your board.

Performance & Suitability
Owing to its design and dimensions in particular, the Venice offers a tremendous amount of stability, rigidity and buoyancy. This is exemplified when you consider its volume and more so an impressive carrying capacity of 350 lbs. Stability is without a doubt one of the first things that those new to paddling should be looking for. Without a stable paddling surface, its difficult to build up confidence and ultimately the technically sound fundamentals that are required when you’re first starting out. The boards construction and rigidity aid stability but its width and in this case 34”, is a key factor in making the Venice a very stable board ideal for yoga and fitness.
Best classed as an all-round iSUP, the Venice offers a nice balanced ride that is best suited to flat water or mild swell recreational paddling. It can comfortably accommodate larger adult paddlers or if you‘re paddling with the kids, dog or additional accessories.
The board tracks well (straight line paddling) which is enhanced by the longer 9” centre fin, and while it‘s not the fastest inflatable out there, it still picks up speed nicely so is certainly not sluggish. Again, the rigidity and overall construction play a big part here.
While it still offers reasonable manoeuvrability given the tri-fin configuration, the Venice is intentionally on the wider side meaning that it is not highly responsive when it comes to performing more dynamic turns or manoeuvres.
NIXY have covered this base off nicely as their G4 range contains a number of upgraded accessories – well done.
The Typhoon dual-chamber triple-action pump is one of the best manual hand pumps on the market. The detachable handles and foldable legs make for easy storage while the high-pressure gauge helps the pump reach a maximum inflation capacity of an impressive 29 psi.
If you are looking to paddle on a more frequent basis, then we would always recommend investing in an electric pump. Our Top 5 Electric Pump Picks provides greater insight on what to look for as well as some well reputed recommendations.
Unlike some of the other comparable iSUP packages, NIXY have included an upgraded adjustable carbon fibre hybrid paddle as a standard inclusion for the Venice. If you’ve used an aluminium paddle in the past, then the benefits of a significantly lighter more durable and rigid carbon fibre paddle will be noticeably obvious as soon as you take to the water. The paddle floats and is adjustable out to 84” (213 cm), enabling it to be adjusted to suit riders of all heights.
Many inflatable SUP manufactures let themselves down when it comes to backpacks so again it‘s pleasing to see that NIXY have made some enhancements here.
The heavy duty nylon backpack has been slimmed down over the previous model making it lighter and easier to transport and store. Weighing a little under 6 lbs, features include: a single large U-shaped zipper for the main storage compartment; side pockets with drainage grommets for wet items; thick extra padded adjustable shoulder straps for greater comfort; side adjustable straps with separate paddle sleeve; front I.D. window; durable top carry handle; front zipper accessories compartment; plastic D-rings / cargo hooks for accessories as well as three heavy duty wheels for easy transport on flat surfaces making it an ideal travel bag for flights.
The 10’ hybrid coiled / straight SUP leash has been designed for SUP paddling. The multi-layered neoprene cuff securely and comfortably attaches to the paddlers ankle or calf muscle while the stainless steel double swivelled durable polyurethane cord helps mitigate tangling and drag across the waters surface.
The Venice comes with a standard inflatable SUP repair kit which includes colour coded PVC patches and glue in the unlikely event of a tear plus a wrench tool in case the inflation value loosens, all of which is contained within an orange plastic canister.
Built to a very high standard, if you are in the market for a versatile all round paddle board that offers supreme rigidity, stiffness and stability for fitness, yoga and an overall quality paddling experience, then we would highly recommend checking out the Venice. Very well suited to paddlers of all levels and friendly for the newbie SUPers, you will struggle to go wrong with this one.
