Why Paddle Board
As a recreational activity, paddle boarding offers some tremendous health and fitness benefits ranging from a full body workout engaging many of the core muscles albeit in a low impact way, through to improved balance, improvements in endurance and stamina, injury rehabilitation, weight loss and improving our cardiovascular health. Its an exciting way to unwind and decompress whilst at the same time engaging with nature. As one of the fastest growing water sports globally, if you have access to water then its definitely worth giving it a go.
Based in Irvine California and established in 2015 by Ale and Nicolas Szczedrin, NIXY are quickly establishing themselves as industry leaders for mid-high end iSUPs. With a passion for travel, it was their desire to bring a series of boards to the market that met the highest of design standards whilst still remaining portable, lightweight and equally important – affordable. Continually looking for ways to improve upon the design process, NIXY appear to be well positioned to take advantage of an exciting and growing inflatable market.

▪️A tri-fin set up would be advantageous
Construction – throughout the entire G4 range, NIXY utilise their proprietary dual layer Advanced Fusion laminated woven drop-stitch technology when building all of their inflatable boards. Drop-stitch is a proven method of intertwining thousands of polyester threads together to form an inflatables inner core. This method of construction is what enables the board to maintain its shape and form once fully inflated under high pressure. Drop-stitch technology has been extensively used for many years in the marine and aviation sectors (floating docks, platforms etc.).
Enveloping the core are two layers of military-grade laminated PVC material which form a highly durable outer skin capable of withstanding impacts from floating debris, other watercraft, underwater rocks or reefs and obstacles or if accidentally dropped.
Fusing as opposed to gluing the two layers of laminate together actually creates greater strength as well as saving weight when compared to gluing the layers together which is a process that many other manufactures adopt. This also helps reduce the risk of surface wrinkles that can become apparent over time. The board is further protected with high-pressure heat-pressed seams as well as carbon side and centre rails for even greater stiffness and rigidity.
External Board Features
For a compact iSUP, NIXY have managed to compliment the Huntington with a nice features package that will not leave you wanting on the water.
▪️Action Mounts – 4 separate M8 mounts to attach your GoPro camera, fishing rod holder, water bottle or other mountable accessories.
▪️D-rings – 14 well spaced D-rings to attach accessories including your SUP leash.
▪️Bungee Areas – the forward 4-point and rear 6-point adjustable cargo areas provide ample space to store your dry bag, water bottle or other personal items.
▪️Paddle Holder – a side bungee strap to hold your paddle when not in use. Great for SUP yoga, fishing or other stationary board exercises.
▪️Grab Handles – centre, rear and forward neoprene carry handles for single or dual paddler use.
▪️Fin – a single 9” tool-less detachable SUP fin which is US / FCS compatible so can be changed out with other after market products to suit your paddling preferences.
▪️Valve – designed to withstand significant water / air pressure, the valve operates via an easy push button mechanism for quick and easy inflation / deflation.
▪️Traction Pad – covering the majority of the boards upper deck, the non-slip logo embossed traction padding is made from a highly durable light-weight UV protected EVA foam for greater comfort which is ideal for both SUP yoga or reducing fatigue when paddling over longer distances.
Performance / Suitability
Light-weight, compact and agile would be the best way to sum up the NIXY Huntington. At 9’6”, it is on the smaller size for an all-rounder so best suits the average sized adult or teen paddler who is looking for a responsive paddle board with all of the convenience that an inflatable has to offer.
Stability – At 32” wide, the Huntington has a generous belly section which extends up and down the board so there is more than enough room to find your feet and comfortably get into your stroke. It is a shorter board however meaning that it offers less overall stability when compared to a longer touring SUP for instance. Having a very rigid structure with little flex does add stability so all-in-all, you shouldn’t be left wanting. The EVA foam deck traction padding is quite comfortable and very durable which again aids stability and reduces fatigue whilst paddling.
Tracking / Glide – as a shorter all-rounder, the Huntington isn’t really built for speed or straight line tracking. That said, the board has been designed with a flat bottom through the body and drawn out forward section which enhances overall glide and helps eliminate the nose catching in choppier waters. If you are looking for a SUP to rack up the miles with touring in mind, then opting for something longer like the NIXY Manhattan G4 12’6” iSUP might make more sense.
Manoeuvrability – shorter in length and with a marginally tapered nose, the board is quite responsive and agile so you can comfortably throw it around even when in swell or windier conditions. Its also one of the lightest iSUPs on the market which again adds to its overall manoeuvrability. While its a single fin only iSUP, this doesn’t really hamper overall responsiveness. The board also has a slightly squared off tail section so there is also ample real estate to gain traction and stability so reforming step-back turns is not that challenging either.
The entire NIXY G4 range comes with an all-inclusive accessories package to get you out on the water at no additional expense.
✔️ Leash – the 10’ hybrid coiled / straight SUP leash has been specifically designed for SUP paddling. The multi-layered neoprene cuff securely and comfortably attaches to the paddlers ankle or calf muscle while the stainless steel double swivelled durable polyurethane cord helps mitigate tangling and drag through the water.
✔️ Pump – the Typhoon dual-chamber triple-action pump is one of the best manual hand pumps on the market. The detachable handles and foldable legs make for easy storage while the high-pressure gauge helps the pump reach a maximum inflation capacity of an impressive 29 psi.
If you are looking to paddle on a more frequent basis, then we would always recommend investing in an electric pump. Our Top 5 Electric Pump Picks provides greater insight on what to look for as well as some well reputed recommendations.
✔️ Paddle – unlike some of the other comparable iSUP packages, NIXY have included an upgraded adjustable carbon fibre hybrid paddle as a standard inclusion for the Huntington. If you’ve used an aluminium paddle in the past, then the benefits of a significantly lighter more durable and rigid carbon fibre paddle will be noticeably obvious as soon as you take to the water. The paddle floats and is adjustable out to 84” (213 cm), enabling it to be adjusted to suit riders of all heights.
✔️ Backpack – many inflatable SUP manufactures let themselves down when it comes to backpacks so again it‘s pleasing to see that NIXY have made some enhancements on their G4 range.
The heavy-duty nylon backpack has been slimmed down over the previous model making it lighter and easier to transport and store. Weighing a little under 6 lbs, features include: a single large U-shaped zipper for the main storage compartment; side pockets with drainage grommets for wet items; thick extra padded adjustable shoulder straps for greater comfort; a paddle sleeve; front I.D. window; durable top carry handle; front zipper accessories compartment; plastic D-rings / cargo hooks for accessories as well as three heavy duty wheels for easy transport on flat surfaces making it an ideal travel bag for flights.
✔️ Repair Kit – a standard inflatable SUP repair kit which includes colour coded PVC patches and glue in the unlikely event of a tear plus a wrench tool in case the inflation value loosens, all of which is contained within a watertight orange plastic canister.

The NIXY Huntington G4 is a really well-balanced iSUP that is ideally suited for paddlers looking for a compact versatile all-rounder. At its best on flat waters or mild swell, it is stocked with all of the mod-cons that you should expect to find in a modern day paddle board and built to the highest of standards.
The NIXY G4 range of paddle boards represent genuine value for a middle market SUP and are most certainly worth putting on your short-list if you’re in the market for your next ride.
