The Board

The Chasing Blue Infinite 10’6” iSUP is a nicely put together all-round paddle board. Its external features capture what all-round paddling is about while the build quality and durability is quite impressive particularly given its price point.

Construction – at the heart of the board is a dense drop-stitch which uses thousands of polyester threads that are woven together to form the boards inner core. Drop-stitch technology has been used for many years in the maritime and aviation industries and it is this method of construction that enables inflatables to maintain there shape once inflated to a high pressure.

Using their SCW (Superlight Coalitional-Woven) Technology, the drop-stitch core is then surrounded in a further layer of woven mesh fabric to help the core maintain its integrity.

Enveloping the core are two layers of pre-laminated PVC material specifically manufactured for maximum air-tightness which creates an even lighter and more durable board with superior strong wear-resistance and anti-deformation.

It is this process that keeps the boards weight down which culminates in an all round SUP that will not only perform well on the water, but also offer the rigidity and durability that you would expect to find in a quality Inflatable.

External Board Features

For an entry-level paddle board, Chasing Blue have built-in all of the core features that you would expect to find on an all-rounder and have in fact been quite generous for a board at this price point.

Grab & Safety Handles – with 3 separate grab / carry handles (forward, centre and rear), the board can easily be carried individually or with another paddler if being carried by two people. Chasing Blue are also one of a small handful only of boards that come with front and back side safety handles. Very useful for beginners and children in particular when falling off, or being used as an aid to get back on the board.

Bungee Cargo Netting on the Chasing Blue 10’6” iSUP

Deck Traction Pad – the non-abrasive EVA foam deck padding is comfortable under foot for reduced fatigue when paddling over longer distances. The forward section is a strip shaped which is more comfortable to stand on while the rear section is diamond grooved providing greater traction and support for when stepping back through turns and manoeuvres.

Bungee System – for a board of its size, the Infinite 10’6” is very generous when it comes to storage space. With separate 6-point forward and rear bungee cargo areas, there is more than ample space to store your dry bag, water bottle, towel or other non-attached accessories.

D-rings – I’m struggling to think of another manufacturer that has included this many D-rings on their boards. With no less than 22, there is pretty much nothing you can not attach to Chasing Blue SUPs.

Fins – the board has a tri-fin configuration with the two smaller side fins (side-bites) permanently attached. The large 9” touring SUP fin quickly attaches with the included locking pin.

Inflation Valve – spring controlled for higher safety performance to easily control inflation with a one push automatic deflation system. The high pressure valve has been ungraded with an automatic air release mechanism once the board reaches 15 psi so you can not over inflate the board.

Performance / Suitability

As the name implies, the Chasing Blue Infinite 10’6” iSUP is a purpose build all-round paddle board that is ideally suited for less experienced paddlers who are looking for a versatile board. The core characteristics that you would typically look for when buying a paddle board are stability, buoyancy, tracking & speed and manoeuvrability. These are all measured in the main by the boards overall design, build quality and specifications.

Profile Vie of the Chasing Blue Infinite 10’6” iSUP

Stability – normally considered the most important factor for beginner paddlers. Without a stable paddling platform beneath your feet, it’s more challenging to build up both the confidence and paddling technique required so you can make the most of your board.

Fortunately Chasing Blue have this base nicely covered. Taking on the classic dimensions of an all-rounder although with a little more width at 34”, the Infinite 10’6” offers plenty of stability and weight carrying capacity so can comfortably accommodate larger adult paddlers with or without the kids, dog or other kit. Its also a very rigid board with little flex and plenty of grip and traction so even in choppier conditions, finding your feet and getting into a comfortable paddling stroke is not that challenging.

Tracking / Speed – all round SUPs are primarily built for there versatility so are not meant to be rockets across the water, This said, given the boards sleeker tapered design and mild front rocker (upward turned nose), this is an all-rounder that can nicely hold a straight line and cut through the water so it isn’t sluggish at all. Note: as a rule of thumb, Inflatable SUPs are thereabouts 10% slower than like for like non-inflatables (hard) boards so this is one of the trade offs you get when comparing the portability and versatility that an iSUP has to offer.

Manoeuvrability – the board isn’t outrageous when it comes to agility, although with the greater rear traction and slightly squared off tail, you won’t be too challenged when it comes to performing step-back turns or general changes in direction. The what is now commonplace thruster fin configuration (3 fins) on all round paddle boards also aids manoeuvrability with the smaller side fins helping channel the water in the desired direction with each change in your paddling stroke.

Pleasingly, Chasing Blue have also thrown in a light-weight carbon shaft paddle with this SUP package and the board is only 22 lbs, so straight off the starting line, you’re working with some handy additions which again supports a greater overall level of performance.

Accessories Package

Chasing Blue iSUP Accessories Package

Paddle – the 3-piece fully adjustable paddle has a light-weight carbon shaft which can be adjusted from 72” to 86” making it suitable for paddlers of all heights. Weighing only 28 oz, the paddle has a comfortable T-grip and durable nylon blade. Carbon shaft paddles are far lighter than their cheaper aluminium counterparts making paddling over longer distances less fatiguing and more energy efficient.

Pump – the dual-action single chamber manual hand pump has an integrated high pressure gauge and inflation hose. The Infinite 10’6” takes approx. 8-10 minutes to fully inflate to the recommended 13-15 psi although does make for a bit of a pre-paddling workout.

For those that are looking to take to the water on a more regular basis and don’t mind spending a few extra dollars, we would always recommend investing in a portable electric pump. Our article on Top 5 Electric Pump Picks covers off some useful tips on what to look for as well as providing recommendations on the better rated pumps on the market.

Outdoor Master Shark Electric SUP Pump

Leash – a standard SUP leash to ensure that you and your board do not become separated in the event of a fall in the water. The leash has a multi-layered neoprene cuff that securely and comfortably attaches to the ankle (or calf); a coiled cord to help reduce drag in the water as well as dual-swivels to prevent tangling.

Backpack – this is actually a pretty decent quality backpack which can be a challenge on its own when you see what’s out there. Large enough to fit both the deflated iSUP and all accessory items, the backpack opens through a single front u-shaped zip with quick and easy access to the centre compartment. The inner lining is also heat insulted to help maintain the temperature and not damage the board or accessories.

Features include adjustable shoulder, side and waist straps; durable hard plastic bottom; I.D window; top, side and rear carry handles as well as integrated wheels making it extremely easy to roll over flat surfaces or for when you are traveling on a flight.

Action Mounts – the 3 separate action mounts can be glued to the upper board deck wherever you prefer making it easy to attach your GoPro camera, cell phone, fishing rod holder or other accessories.

Cell Phone Case – includes carry strap with a waterproof clasp for extra piece of mind.

Repair Kit – a standard SUP repair kit which includes a wrench tool in case the valve loosens as well as colour coded patches and glues in the unlikely event you get a tear.

Nicely balanced, enjoyable to ride and well suited to paddlers of all levels, the Chasing Blue Infinite 10’6” iSUP is a quality entry-level board that offers the versatility that you would expect to find in an all-rounder. It certainly won’t break the bank and is backed by a genuine 2-year manufacturers warranty which on its own is a testament to the boards durability.
