Chasing Blue 11’ Ace iSUP Performance Score

The Board

The 11’ Ace has the very same specs as Chasing Blue’s Infinite 10’6” iSUP although slighter longer. This additional 6” in length gives the Ace a little more tapper towards the nose allowing for marginally greater glide and speed particularly in calmer waters. While still classed as an all round iSUP, it also paddles well over longer distances and features all of the key inclusions making it suitable for touring and longer distance paddling.

Construction – all of the Chasing Blue upper range iSUPs are made with a dense drop-stitch core which uses thousands of polyester threads that are woven together to form the boards inner core. Drop-stitch technology has been used for many years in the maritime and aviation industries and it is this method of construction that enables inflatables to maintain their shape once inflated to a high pressure.

Using their SCW (Superlight Coalitional-Woven) Technology, the drop-stitch core is then surrounded in a further layer of woven mesh fabric to help the core maintain its integrity.

Enveloping the core are two layers of pre-laminated PVC material specifically manufactured for maximum air-tightness which creates an even lighter and more durable board with superior strong wear-resistance and anti-deformation.

It is this process that keeps the boards weight down which culminates in a paddle board that will not only perform well on the water, but also offer the rigidity and durability that you would expect to find in a quality Inflatable.

External Board Features

Chasing Blue have built-in all of the core features that you would expect to find on an all-rounder and have in fact been quite accommodating for a board at this price point.

Bungee System – the 11’ Ace is very generous when it comes to storage space. With separate 6-point forward and rear bungee cargo areas, there is more than ample space to store your dry bag, water bottle, towel or other non-attached accessories.

☑️ D-rings – I’m struggling to think of another manufacturer that has included this many D-rings on their boards. With no less than 22, there is pretty much nothing you can not attach to Chasing Blue SUPs.

☑️ Fins – the board has a tri-fin configuration with the two smaller side fins (side-bites) permanently attached. The large 9” touring SUP fin quickly attaches with the included locking pin.

☑️ Deck Traction Pad – the non-abrasive EVA foam deck padding is comfortable under foot for reduced fatigue when paddling over longer distances. The forward section is a strip shaped which is more comfortable to stand on while the rear section is diamond grooved providing greater traction and support for when stepping back through turns and manoeuvres.

☑️ Grab & Safety Handles – with 3 separate grab / carry handles (forward, centre and rear), the board can easily be carried individually or with another paddler if being carried by two people. Chasing Blue are also one of a small handful only of boards that come with front and back side safety handles. Very useful for beginners and children in particular when falling off, or being used as an aid to get back on the board.

☑️ Inflation Valve – spring controlled for higher safety performance to easily control inflation with a one push automatic deflation system. The high pressure valve has been ungraded with an automatic air release mechanism once the board reaches 15 psi so you can not over inflate the board.

Performance Suitability

When we consider how a paddle board performs in the water, we typically look at 3 key metrics – stability, speed (glide) and manoeuvrability.

By the very nature of their design and overall board specs, a well constructed all round iSUP will normally measure up quite well all things considered. That is to say, they are designed for all round performance, so unless you are looking to excel in a particular area, all-rounders will be the way to go for most recreational paddlers.

Chasing Blue Ace 11’ iSUP Profile View

◽️Stability – typically considered to be the most critical performance indicator. If you can’t find your feet and confidently balance on your board then you’re pretty much doomed from the outset.

At 32” wide which is very much the norm for an all-round iSUP, and a generous 11’ long, the Ace offers more than enough surface area for you to take up a wide stance or transition along the board when needed. It’s also quite rigid and has minimal centre board flex so can comfortably accommodate heavier paddlers with additional kit. All-rounders perform well in flat waters but can also tackle choppier waters and smaller waves as well once you gain experience and confidence.

◽️Speed / Glide – the Ace has a nice flat bottom deck with a moderate front rocker (upward turned nose). As a slightly longer all round iSUP, it moves through the water quite well in fact so building up speed and holding a straight line course is not challenging at all. It’s not as quick as the 12’6” Orion Voyager but still performs well and moves along quite nicely.

◽️Manoeuvrability – a boards dimensions, design and fin system all play a part when it comes to how easy it is to manoeuvre through the water. The shorter the board the more nimble and responsive it is.

At 11’ long, the Ace isn’t super dynamic but it’s still fairly easy to change direction and make acute turns once you get the hang of it. It also has a squared off tail to better enable the paddler to traverse weight on to the back foot to dig in for turns, as well as a tri-fin set-up which again aids how the water flows along the underside of the board.

Accessories Package

The entire range of Chasing Blue inflatable stand up paddle boards comes with a complete all-inclusive accessories package to get you out on the water at no additional expense.

Chasing Blue iSUP Accessories Package

◽️Paddle – the 3-piece fully adjustable paddle has a light-weight carbon shaft which can be adjusted from 72” to 86” making it suitable for paddlers of all heights. Weighing only 28 oz, the paddle has a comfortable T-grip and durable nylon blade. Carbon shaft paddles are far lighter than their cheaper aluminium counterparts making paddling over longer distances less fatiguing and more energy efficient.

◽️Pump – the dual-action single chamber manual hand pump has an integrated high pressure gauge and inflation hose. The board takes approx. 8-10 minutes to fully inflate to the recommended 13-15 psi although does make for a bit of a pre-paddling workout.

For those that are looking to take to the water on a more regular basis and don’t mind spending a few extra dollars, we would always recommend investing in a portable electric pump. Our Top 5 Electric Pump Picks article covers off some useful tips on what to look for as well as providing recommendations on the better rated pumps on the market.

◽️Backpack – this is actually a pretty decent quality backpack which can be a challenge on its own when you see what’s out there. Large enough to fit both the deflated iSUP and all accessory items, the backpack opens through a single front u-shaped zip with quick and easy access to the centre compartment. The inner lining is also heat insulted to help maintain the temperature and not damage the board or accessories.

Features include adjustable shoulder, side and waist straps; durable hard plastic bottom; I.D window; top, side and rear carry handles as well as integrated wheels making it extremely easy to roll over flat surfaces or for when you are traveling on a flight.

◽️Leash – a standard SUP leash to ensure that you and your board do not become separated in the event of a fall in the water. The leash has a multi-layered neoprene cuff that securely and comfortably attaches to the ankle (or calf); a coiled cord to help reduce drag in the water as well as dual-swivels to prevent tangling.

◽️Action Mounts – the 3 separate action mounts can be glued to the upper board deck wherever you prefer making it easy to attach your GoPro camera, cell phone, fishing rod holder or other accessories.

◽️Cell Phone Case – includes carry strap with a waterproof clasp for extra piece of mind.

◽️Repair Kit – a standard SUP repair kit which includes a wrench tool in case the valve loosens as well as colour coded patches and glue in the unlikely event you get a tear.
