The Board

The Boardworks Solr 11’6” is a versatile SUP designed for paddlers of all skill levels. It takes on the classic dimensions of an all-rounder and as such is great for recreational flat water paddling, moderate swell and even small to mid-sized wave conditions.

Boardworks utilise X-SHOT Technology in the construction of their non-inflatable SUPs. This is a process that uses aerospace grade expandable epoxy which is infused into the molded EPS foam core. This method reduces the amount of waste as well as providing improved balance and weight consistency to ensure maximum bond between the boards core and the outer fibreglass and resin.

External Board Features

With a clean and simplistic top deck, the Solr is a typical non-inflatable (hard) SUP featuring the core essentials only.

▪️Deck Padding – the ultra-comfortable honeycomb heat embossed traction pad covering in excess of two-thirds of the deck, offers a high level of traction and stability without the water retention of brushed or open-foam pads. Well suited for SUP yoga or other stationary board exercises, the padding is soft under foot which helps reduce fatigue when paddling over longer distances.

▪️Carry Handle – the single centre grab handle is integrated allowing it to remain flush with the boards surface for a cleaner feel. The handle can be locked into place and also serves as an anchor point for storage or when transporting (roof racks).

▪️Leash Point – at the rear of the board to attach the included coiled SUP leash.

▪️Bungee System – while not particularly generous, the 4-point forward bungee cargo area has sufficient room to hold your dry bag, water bottle, towel or other accessories.

▪️Fin – the single centre fin box comes with a tool-less detachable 9” FCS2 dolphin fin for quick and easy installation offering quality performance in varied water conditions.

Performance / Suitability

Profile View of the Boardworks Solr Paddle Board

The Boardworks Solr is a classic all round paddle board and as such offers plenty of versatile.

◽️Stability – the first thing that those newer to SUPing consider is how stable a board will be. Factoring into this is the rigidity of the board (its construction), weight carrying capacity as well as the overall dimensions.

As touched on above, the Solr is a well constructed highly rigid SUP that will not flex once the paddler is on board. At 33” wide, it has quite a generous middle board area allowing ample room to find your feet whilst paddling or stretching out on for stationary board exercises. At 11’6” in length, it’s also on the longer side for an all-rounder which again adds to the stability. With more than enough weight carrying capacity at up to 260 lbs, larger sized adults will still find the Solr quite stable with plenty of buoyancy.

◽️Manoeuvrability – as a slightly longer SUP and with a single fin only configuration, the Solr is not designed to be highly responsive or agile. That said, it doesn’t drive like a bus either so once you settle into your stroke you can still comfortably turn and manoeuvre the board in your desired direction.

◽️Tracking / Speed – epoxy paddle boards are by design, faster than inflatables and the Solr is no exception. Known for their build quality, the Solr has a slightly less rounded although not too aggressive design allowing it to glide across the waters surface with ease. The slight front rocker (upward turned nose) helps the board from catching water in choppier conditions which again aids its ability to move through the water. The large single centre fin also comes into play here so maintaining a straight line course (tracking) is also quite easy on the Solr making for an enjoyable overall paddling experience.

Boardworks SUP Paddle and Leash

☑️ Paddle – made with a carbon fibre shaft and a unique thermoplastic-infused carbon blade, this is one of the higher end paddles on the market providing optimal performance for greater efficiency and output with less paddling fatigue. Light-weight and extremely stiff, the 2-piece paddle adjusts using a patented LeverLock® grip and adjustment system for convenience and usage between paddlers of different heights.

☑️ Leash – outside of your Personal Flotation Device (PFD), the paddle board leash is your most important safety item and should be worn at all times. The leash attaches to your ankle (or calf) via a comfortable multi-layered easy release two-inch neoprene cuff to ensure that you and your board do not become separated. The 10’ durable straight cord has dual-swivels on either end to reduce the chance of tangling as well as a rail saver to protect your board from damage.
