Why Paddle Board

As a recreational activity, paddle boarding offers some tremendous health and fitness benefits ranging from a full body workout engaging many of the core muscles albeit in a low impact way, through to improved balance, improvements in endurance and stamina, injury rehabilitation, weight loss and improving our cardiovascular health. Its an exciting way to unwind and decompress whilst at the same time engaging with nature. As one of the fastest growing water sports globally, if you have access to water then its definitely worth giving it a go.

Aquaplanet SUP Construction

Cross-Section View of an Aquaplanet iSUP Construction Method

As is the case with the vast majority of quality inflatable paddle boards these days, all Aquaplanet inflatable SUPs are manufactured with a high density drop-stitch at its core. Drop-stitch construction is a process where thousands of polyester threads are woven together to create a highly rigid core that is able to maintain its shape and rigidity once under extreme pressure one fully inflated.

Enveloping the inner core are layers of military-grade PVC material which are fused together to create a highly durable waterproof outer skin. Depending on the range and design specifications, each Aquaplanet paddle board adopts a variation of this drop-stitch / PVC construction methodology.

Aquaplanet iSUP Accessories Package

The accessories provided with each of the all-inclusive Aquaplanet SUP packages are by and large entry level inclusions. They will definitely do the job although if you are looking to take to the water on a semi-regular basis, then we would recommend upgrading both the paddle and pump assuming you can find a few extra dollars.

Inflation times for inflatable SUPs will typically take 10-15 minutes and while this will be a nice pre-paddling workout, investing in a quality electric pump will definitely be money well spent. Our Paddle Board Electric Pumps article covers all of the key bases with links to some of the market leading products. The Aquaplanet Electric Compact Paddle Board Pump is of course another nice option that will compliment your SUP package.

When it comes to paddling and more so over longer distances, the difference between an aluminium paddle and a far lighter weight Carbon Fibre Paddle will become quite evident. Offering a more fluid rigid stroke and better overall performance and paddling output, you will again spend a few more dollars but the investment is in our view, definitely well worth it.

Note: the Aquaplanet Premium Range (WINGTAIL / STINGER / CUDA ) SUP accessories package includes a 3-piece adjustable carbon fibre paddle as a standard inclusion.

Beginner / Entry-Level

  • Length: 10’ (305 cm)
  • Width: 31” (79 cm)
  • Thickness: 5” (12 cm)
  • Weight: 22 lbs (10 kgs)
  • Capacity:  200 lbs (90 kgs)

An entry-level beginners board that is best suited to less experienced children or lighter adult paddlers. The board takes on the classic all-round shape making it ideal for general recreational flat water paddling or light swell. While this is not a particularly wide board, it still offers a generous paddling surface with a diamond cut EVA deck traction padding for added comfort and stability. Light-weight and easily transportable, the ALLROUND TEN is a very popular entry-level board that represents great value for money.

Aquaplanet MAX
  • Length: 10’6” (320 cm)
  • Width: 31” (79 cm)
  • Thickness: 6” (15 cm)
  • Weight: 24 lbs (11 kgs)
  • Capacity:  285 lbs (130 kgs)
Aquaplanet MAX iSUP

Amongst the most versatile and stable inflatables within Aquaplanet’s range, the MAX has greater volume and weight carrying capacity making it ideal for heavier paddlers of all skill levels. Longer than the ALLROUND TEN albeit still with the classic all-rounder SUP design features, the MAX can comfortably motor along in flat waters, tackle mild swell and choppier waters, or with its larger surface area, carrying capacity and durable deck padding, there is ample room for stationary board activities including fishing or yoga.

All Round / Intermediate

Aquaplanet PACE
  • Length: 10’6” (320 cm)
  • Width: 30” (76 cm)
  • Thickness: 6” (15 cm)
  • Weight: 24 lbs (11 kgs)
  • Capacity:  265 lbs (120 kgs)
Aquaplanet PACE iSUP

At 6” thick and offering plenty of buoyancy, the PACE takes it up a notch from the above entry-level boards. Offering greater speed and glide, the PACE is a more responsive SUP that is a hybrid between an all-rounder and a touring board. The focused design with sharper nose makes the board more reactive through each paddling stroke while the squared off tail creates better stability when manoeuvring or performing step-back or pivot turns. As this is a sleeker narrower board, it is better suited to paddlers who are comfortable on the water with a solid paddling foundation.

Aquaplanet ROCKIT
  • Length: 10’2” (310 cm)
  • Width: 31” (79 cm)
  • Thickness: 5” (12.5 cm)
  • Weight: 31 lbs (14 kgs)
  • Capacity:  242 lbs (110 kgs)
Aquaplanet ROCKIT iSUP

Dial up the versatility with the ROCKIT. While still taking on the features of a great all-rounder, the ROCKIT quickly and easily doubles up as a kayak with the included detachable kayak conversion kit and 4-piece adjustable telescopic dual bladed paddle. Building on the ALLROUND TEN, the board is marginally longer in length and constructed out of a dual layer double skin for added stiffness. With more volume and rigidity, the ROCKIT achieves better glide and tracking through the water making both stand up and seated dual bladed paddling a breeze.

Aquaplanet SEEKER
  • Length: 10’8” (325 cm)
  • Width: 34” (86 cm)
  • Thickness: 6” (15 cm)
  • Weight: 26 lbs (12 kgs)
  • Capacity:  375 lbs (170 kgs)
Aquaplanet SEEKER iSUP

With serious weight carrying capacity and greater length and volume, the SEEKER is one of Aquaplanet’s longer all-rounders offering unrivaled stability. Its larger overall specifications provide greater volume and buoyancy whilst its broader mid-section and width make the board very stable when paddling in varied water conditions whether you’re cruising along flat waters or out back beyond the breakers on the ocean. Load it up with extra accessories, the dog or the kids. Plenty of meat in this one for all comers.

Whitewater / Yoga

  • Length: 10’ (305 cm)
  • Width: 32” (81 cm)
  • Thickness: 6” (15 cm)
  • Weight: 24 lbs (11 kgs)
  • Capacity:  353 lbs (160 kgs)

Being a shorter chunkier iSUP, the WILDERNESS hasn’t been built for speed but yet still makes for great recreational paddling. With its particularly wide squared off nose and tail plus slight front rocker (upward turned nose), the WILDERNESS offers great stability and manoeuvrability making it ideal for river surfing, whitewater paddling or when stationary as a stable platform for fitness and yoga. With the added ability to convert to seated kayak paddling and a sturdy weight carrying capacity, the WILDERNESS can comfortable tackle the rough stuff.

Aquaplanet WINGTAIL
  • Length: 9’ (275 cm)
  • Width: 30” (76 cm)
  • Thickness: 4” (10 cm)
  • Weight: 23 lbs (10.5 kgs)
  • Capacity:  330 lbs (140 kgs)
Aquaplanet WINGTAIL iSUP

With less emphasis on stability and a high degree of manoeuvrability, the WINGTAIL is a purpose built surfing paddle board. While its shorter in length and lacks the bulk of a more meaty all-round paddle board, it has surprisingly high capacity so is well suited for larger paddlers. Design features include a pronounced front rocker to prevent pearling; winged swallow tail for easy connections and picking up drive; narrower 4” side rails; thruster tri-fin configuration and rear kick pad, the WINGTAIL is a highly responsive and agile surfing SUP that is well worth the investment.

Touring / Racing

Aquaplanet STINGER
  • Length: 12’6” (381 cm)
  • Width: 29” (74 cm)
  • Thickness: 6” (15 cm)
  • Weight: 31 lbs (14 kgs)
  • Capacity:  353 lbs (160 kgs)
Aquaplanet STINGER iSUP

You only need to look at the STINGER to work out that this board is built for speed. Measuring 12’6” long with an ultra-sleek design, the STINGER is a purpose built touring and racing paddle board. With a significant weight carrying capacity, moderate board mid-section and sharp nose with mild front rocker, the board offers significant straight line speed and tracking which is enhanced yet again by the 8” detachable dolphin centre fin. More targeted to the experienced paddler, the STINGER performs well in both flat water conditions as well as moderate swell in choppier seas.

Aquaplanet CUDA
  • Length: 14’ (427 cm)
  • Width: 29” (74 cm)
  • Thickness: 6” (15 cm)
  • Weight: 31 lbs (14 kgs)
  • Capacity:  407 lbs (185 kgs)
Aquaplanet CUDA iSUP

The CUDA is a big boy and the longest of Aquaplanet‘s SUP’s coming in at an impressive 14’. With the greatest weight carrying capacity amongst the range, the CUDA is quite stable albeit still maintaining the sleek lines that would be expected in a touring or racing SUP. The slightly longer 9” detachable centre fin bites in well enabling effortless speed and glide as it cuts through the water. It’s ultra-light composite fusion design has created a very rigid and stiff paddling platform great for long range paddling for the serious paddler who is up to the task.

  1. Hi Jason,

This new Aquaplanet range looks really good. I’m considering the turquoise ALLAROUND TEN as I’m a beginner and want to do paddling only recreationally – for now. What would you also recommend for a female but a more experienced paddler?

    • Hi Danijela,

Glad you found the review useful. The Allround Ten is a great middle market board that is well suited for general recreational paddling so you won’t go wrong there. For a more experienced female though, it will really come down to the persons size and then the type of paddling that they are looking at doing. The review covers off each of the different boards but if you would like other recommendations from other manufacturers then drop me a message via the contacts page and I’d be happy to assist.

      All the best – Jason.
